Character Information
Name: Akihiko Sanada
Canon: Persona 3
Canon Point: Prior to October 4th, but not by much; the only relevance of this particular point is that someone hasn't gone and gotten himself killed yet
Age: 17
History: Persona 3 on the SMT wiki, as well as Akihiko's personal page. ( If that is insufficient, please let me know and I'll be glad to expand on anything needed. )
Personality: To say he's very driven, very focused for someone his age is putting it pretty mildly. We're talking like Taco Bell sauce mild — but here we are to expound on that as much as possible.
Losing his sister at a very young age means adopting an inherent need to be able to protect the people that are closest to him, or the ones that mean the most to him in any capacity; there's a reason he goes through all the motions of training, why he essentially puts himself through the ringer and runs himself ragged just to feel like he's gotten a little stronger. Strength is important. Strength keeps people safe, and it makes him feel less vulnerable, which is something he never wants to feel again for the rest of his life, even if there is a small part of him that's able to rationalize that life doesn't work that way. Never has and never will, but it means that he'll always want to find himself prepared for everything that could be thrown his way. No matter what it is.
Along with a mild-to-moderate obsession with power in a very general sense, he's one of your garden variety third-year high school students just trying to get by the best he can; he cares a lot about his grades and keeping them up, which means that along with training he has a tendency to, again run himself ragged and forget things like sleeping and eating like a normal human being, not quite knowing what it means to stop and take a breather when he really needs to. If he's ever tired, he doesn't show it. Doesn't let such a thing factor into his day-to-day because he doesn't have time for it, and may occasionally need smacking upside the head to remind him to take care of those very, very basic aspects of self-care.
Love yourself, Akihiko. Eat a Snickers and take a nap every once in a while. You can't protect people if you're falling asleep standing up.
He's the kind of serious that doesn't often leave room for any measure of argument, and that kind of goes along with being an upperclassman alongside Mitsuru; he doesn't so much as feel responsible for his juniors as he wants to be able to set a good example for them to follow to their own success, and if anyone ever accuses him of not having much of a sense of humor? That would be why, even though he has been known to give over a corny joke or two when the moment is right. ( Read: when no one is expecting it, and anyone he's with thinks he might have bonked his head a bit too hard during practice after school and given himself a concussion. )
Ain't no joke like one about protein powder, or something. Because as an athlete, as a boxer, there isn't much room in his life for things that don't pertain to either or both at the same time. This just means, of course, that his jokes aren't even on the dad-joke level of lame, but that's fine, because he isn't here to make friends and influence people. Or … whatever. Moving right along.
For all his general niceness tends to be the mainstay for his disposition, he does have his aggressive moments, much like any other boy his age; most of that comes out during the Dark Hour when he's with the group fighting against Shadows, again not knowing what it means to stop or admit defeat no matter the foe, but it does occasionally come out in his day-to-day in the form of giving short answers or being generally dismissive when he isn't in the mood to be bothered. ( Just like any other moody teenager … really … but he also has the soul of an old man, coming out of the womb with the spirit of an individual that has already Seen Some Shit ( ™ ) and he honestly just doesn't have time to play nice with people. Sometimes.
Everyone gets cranky, you know. )
Oh. And he's oblivious as anything when it comes to certain things. Like realizing he has an entire fanbase of ladies at school that would do anything to get his attention and while he complains that they talk too much ( not that any of them would be able to get his attention anyway, because they're surely all just basic bitches with low charm ) and give him a headache, the reality of the situation is that he can't. Talk. To girls outside of his teammates. He's about as awkward as any boy can get when it comes to certain social interactions and even if you'd never know it by looking at him, he's probably one of the biggest dweebs in the whole history of Gekkoukan.
Maybe, but maybe not, but all you really need to know is that he reads books on how to talk to girls and gets flustered when trying to walk himself through an encounter when he's all alone in his room. Can you say dweeb again? Dweeb.
To wrap everything up: he's intelligent and he's driven, almost to the point of it being a major character flaw because of how infrequently he pauses to think about things like sleep. He's competitive and relentless, hyper-focused when it comes to whatever it is he's set his sights on and doesn't know the meaning of the word stop until he's reached those goals, no matter what it means in the interim. If he runs himself into the ground, whatever, at least he'll be able to say he's done it in the first place.
He's kind but abrasive when he's not in the mood, oblivious in the sort of way that would almost be adorable if it didn't mean he was being an absolute blockhead about it, ultimately sweet when it comes to those he cares about, but never above the kind of tough love that means others will learn either from his own mistakes or ones they had nearly made themselves.
He's a good kid. A bit dense, but all-around pretty okay.
Abilities & Skills: → persona user; he has the ability to call upon the power of his persona polydeuces to aid him in battle, which can be loosely defined as an extension of his own personality, even if it's the more latent qualities. abilities linked to polydeuces are listed here
→ skilled physical fighter, trained boxer
→ focused student
→ inherent obliviousness ( that is absolutely an ability, you can't tell me it isn't )
Inventory/Companions: + the clothes on his back ( including the gloves, gotta fite )
+ evoker
+ take-no-crap attitude
+ probably some pocket lint
+ protein bar in the pocket that doesn't have the lint in it
Choice: Vampire!
Reason: Trading one type of strength for another by way of actually dying seems almost like his choices catching up with him since he's spent such a long time attempting to get stronger, and stronger, and stronger still. Feeling physically weak before those changes actually set in? It will drive him absolutely mad, and he'll think he's completely failed in everything he's been trying to achieve. Basically, I'm an asshole and I enjoy this kind of suffering.
And he's already pale as hell, so it won't make much difference in the looks department, okok.
